  • Wienand, Mareen: Enterprise Systems End-User Training : Development and evaluation of design principles towards a multimedia elearning approach for future potential users considering cognitive and attitudinal aspects (1). 2024. doi:10.17185/duepublico/82689BIB DownloadDetails

The adoption and implementation of enterprise systems (ES) such as SAP S/4HANA are pivotal for organizations seeking to enhance efficiency, streamline processes, and maintain competitiveness. However, traditional end-user training methods often fail to meet the cognitive and attitudinal needs of users, thereby limiting the potential of these systems. This dissertation develops and evaluates a novel multimedia eLearning approach aimed at improving enterprise system end-user training. Grounded in design science research, it establishes design principles that cater to the cognitive load and user experience, ensuring effective learning outcomes. Through a multi-phase methodology—including literature review, case studies, experiments, and evaluations—the research assesses the effectiveness of the proposed training against traditional methods. The findings demonstrate the superiority of eLearning-based training in enhancing usability perception, user experience, and cognitive engagement, providing actionable insights for both academia and practice. This work contributes to the body of knowledge by bridging the gap between educational design and enterprise system training, offering a scalable solution for future users in increasingly digitalized organizational environments.

Due to the digitalization, there is a growing need for specialists in organizations withcompetencies in enterprise systems (ES) like SAP S/4HANA. These specialists can either be trained within the organization or recruited by hiring new employees, such as university graduates. However, for graduates to develop these competencies, they need to be trainedalready during studies. To counter this requirement, micro learnings, where learning content ispresented in short activities, could be embedded into lectures. However, there is currently a lack of guidance for embedding ES micro learning content into lectures. Towards the developmentof a micro learning framework based on a structured literature review and consortium research,we were able to identify 10 requirements for ES micro learning courses. Finally, we developed a framework that can serve as a guide for lecturers. The framework will be applied in university teaching for the first time in summer term 2024.

Massive open online courses (MOOCs) have significantly transformed e-learning by providing global accessibility, collaborative learning opportunities, and high-quality educational content. However, MOOCs face limitations such as limited social interaction, delayed feedback, and linguistic barriers. To overcome these challenges, there is a growing interest in research to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. In this study, we conduct a systematic literature review examining the capabilities of generative AI (GenAI) and its implications for e-learning in MOOCs. We identify ten capabilities of GenAI, including analytical processing, generative, (personalized) assistant, support, feedback, assessment, communication, reflection, adaptivity, and accessibility. The findings highlight GenAI’s potential to overcome challenges in MOOCs by providing insightful and contextually relevant responses, generating new content, facilitating multilingual interactions, and enhancing the overall e-learning experience. We therefore contribute to the broader understanding of GenAI’s impact on e-learning and suggest avenues for future research on GenAI and its integration in MOOCs.
